Organize Anything with Wire Storage Cubes

About 3 years ago, a friend who was moving away left us some of their things at home.  Some of these items were decorative items, a computer table, a glass cabinet, kitchen utensils and others.  One that I found really useful were these collapsible wire storage cubes.  They are easy to take apart and reassemble.  You can literally find all sorts of uses for it in organizing things at home. Just be creative.

Here are some of the ways that I have used these wire storage cubes at home:
  • I have used it as dividers for my personal books / files and have used the top portion for keeping some office supplies.
  • Since it's welded open wire, I have used the side to hang all these bulky items like sunglasses, head bands, etc.
  • I have one used for dumping in our kids' toys specifically the small stuffed toys so that they wouldn't just lie around.  Easy for the kids to dig through and it's just as easy for them to put back the toys in themselves.
  • I have used one sort of as a shoe / slipper rack by the door for keeping our slippers and sandals all in one neat place.  Just lift the rack and vacuum the dust accumulated underneath.
Other handy uses that I could think of for this item include:
  • As a magazine rack - my friend actually used one this way and placed it in their bathroom.
  • As clothes and bath towels organizer.
  • As kitchen organizer for keeping groceries.
  • Just add an S-hook and use it to hang all sorts of things like neckties, IDs, keys, etc.
  • As a side cabinet in your office where you can organize nicely all those files and folders.
So, if you want to declutter and give a more organized look for your things at home, be creative and try to use wire storage cubes

Enjoying Music Videos

My kids enjoy watching some You Tube videos from our Personal computer.  The boys like watching animated movies like Digimon or Power Rangers while the girls like to watch Barbie videos.  I simply enjoy looking at Janel and Kristel dance to the tune of "She's the Queen of the wa-a-a-aves."

The only problem is sometimes the sound is not audible enough.  The built-in speaker of our desktop computer does not allow for any volume adjustments.  Maybe we can buy another speaker.  I've read some reviews on  Logitech portable speakers, and it looks cool.  Aside from it's ability to provide quality sound, it is portable enough (fits in a carrying case) that you can easily bring it anywhere.  I'm sure it would work great as well with our son's Play Station Portable (PSP) which we can take whenever we travel and still enjoy good MP3 music.

About Blogging: Monetizing Your Blog (Part 8)

I've almost forgotten to finish this series I had about blogging.  This will be the last about monetizing your blog.  But first just to summarize all the topics, here they are:
Why are you blogging?
How do you choose your blog name?
What content should I publish?
Creating a Blogger blog
Blogger Gadgets
How to Get Traffic
More Ways to Get Blog Traffic

I've read somewhere that if you are thinking of monetizing your blog, you should do it sometime at the beginning of your blogging.  This will let your blog readers and followers know that you are monetizing your blog and they will not be surprised later on when they see banner ads on your blog.  In relation to this, don't forget to put a disclosure policy somewhere in your blog page.

What are the ways of monetizing your blog?  Most popular among the monetizing methods is putting banner advertisements.  Some of them are contextual ads like Google adsense ads, Chitika ads, Bidvertizer ads where you get paid for every click on these ads.  This means that the ads that show up on your site depends on the type of content you have.  There are also called in-line text ads offered by Infolinks, Kontera, and Adbrite.  These ads are the double-lined or dotted-lined highlighted text links within your written content.  Many like this because it doesn't take up any other space on their site.   Others also sell advertising spaces (banner size or just text links) on their blog via Project Wonderful or directly offering it themselves .  This is good especially for those who have already successfully achieved increased traffic for their blog.

Another monetizing method is writing sponsored reviews or content in exchange for cash or goods.  Many have been making money through this method though I haven't really done a lot of this.  Often, sponsors look for blogs that are not new and has a high Google Page Rank or Low Alexa Rank.  Many also prefer blogs with their own domain name.  So, it is better to invest on a domain name early on if you wish to monetize your blog this way.  If you wish to do this on your blog, you can check out SponsoredReviews.com, Blogsvertise, Microworkers even ODesk or Freelancer.com.

Another monetizing method that is common among blogs is promoting and selling affiliate products either from Amazon, ClickBank, Paydotcom, etc.  What many do is to make a product review on their blog and insert a link to the sales page of the affiliate product.  There are also others who are successful at doing this.

There are still lots of other ways of monetizing your blog and you can even find one specific for your niche. Others also use their blogs as a platform for joining online contests and have earned some in the process.  Others start their own online store and sell their own products.  If you have any other suggested site out there that can help monetize your blog or any good idea, you can share it in the comment section.  Thanks.

Clay Photo Frame Project 2

I liked my son's clay photo frame project last school year that we (Kristel and I) made another one.  This one is bigger because of Angel's big sized photo.  We also made use of curved clay designs instead of just straight ones.  As decorative embellishments, we just made use of whatever we could find in the house.  We used leftover beads from Kristel's bead necklace projects, recycled fashion earrings (broken locks), broken key holder...   You can literally use anything you can think of, including dried flowers, leftover ribbons, buttons, etc.  To find the instructions on how to make this project, check this post on Clay Photo Frame Project.

AND NOW...THE FIRST CHAPTER:

Kids Need Their Dad…

To Help Them Beat the Odds

Think of the top ten social crises of our time: Drug abuse. Teenage pregnancy. School shootings. Gangs. Spiritual confusion. Overcrowded prisons. AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Domestic violence. Drunk driving. And so on.

We can make the case that the most devastating rips in our social fabric would be radically reduced if dads were getting the job done at home.

Statistically, what happens when dads aren’t around?

Eighty-five percent of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home.
Children who live apart from their fathers are 4.3 times more likely to smoke cigarettes as teenagers than children growing up with their fathers in the home.
Fatherless boys and girls are twice as likely to drop out of high school; twice as likely to end up in jail; four times more likely to need help for emotional or behavioral problems.
Seventy-five percent of all adolescent patients in chemical-abuse centers come from fatherless homes.
Three out of four teenage suicides occur in households where a parent has been absent.
Adolescent females between the ages of 15 and 19 years reared in homes without fathers are significantly more likely to engage in premarital sex than adolescent females reared in homes with both a mother and a father.
Sound hopeless? Just the opposite. If father absence is devastating, leading to all kinds of bad decisions and societal ills, then father presence is the solution, right?

This hard data, along with all kinds of anecdotal evidence, is rarely brought into the light. Even with all the research, too many segments of society express little regard for fatherhood. The media, school administrators, television scriptwriters, judges, church leaders, and state agencies seem to say fathers don’t matter. Or they’ve given up on fathers. Or worse, we’re told fathers are part of the problem. The result is, men are driven away from their families, fathers are disenfranchised, and dads are afraid to hug their own kids.

But the inverse is true and must be said. Men need to hear, “Dad, you matter!” “Your children need you.” “Your wife (or the mother of your children) needs you to be more involved and more invested in the daily lives of your kids.” Without strong male role models, families suffer both short- and long-term. Children make bad decisions. Communities weaken. Government agencies flounder to fix problems after the fact. Taxes go up. Our streets aren’t safe. As soon as they graduate high school, young people turn their back on Jesus. The vibrant potential of the next generation is lost—in many cases, for eternity.

An oft-quoted survey found that if a mother attends church regularly with her children, but without their father, only 2 percent of those children will become regular church attendees. But if a father attends church regularly with his children, even without their mother, an astounding 44 percent choose to become regular church attendees on their own.

Yes, dads matter. Do you want more proof?

All you have to do is ask a kid.

Takeaway

Just opening this book and reading this far proves you want to be the kind of dad your kids need. You can do it, Dad.

“I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.”

I found 24 words today.  Here's the list or words I found in this boggle

Playing with words - use in a sentence - silly or otherwise.
The cute gal with petite legs who lives in a hut, drinks ginger ale and eats yam and ham rye sandwich went out in a gag to play the lyre with male friends for a key feature in a mag in the gay month of May.

What Will You Do If You Win $100?

How far can a $100 go?

With all the daily and monthly expenses like credit card, electricity and water bills that need to be paid for; school tuition fees, books and daily allowance expenses now that classes have started (we have 4 children going to school now, imagine the big expense!); not to mention the food that we put on the table to feed a family of 7  .... every amount of money helps.  Thank God, He is Jehovah Jireh - our Provider.

This post is actually my official entry to Noel and Levy's Thanksgiving contest  where the first prize winner gets $100.   To the question "What will you do if you win $100?" my simple answer is I will give back to God a portion of the blessing and the rest I will give to my sister.

Why give to God and to my sister?  Since God faithfully provides our every need as a family, I would like to faithfully give back to Him also what is due Him - borrowing from my daughter's words 'A Thanks Offering'.

Why give to my sister?  Ever since my sister was a little girl, she has always loved to sing.  My mother says that she developed her voice by crying all the time when she was a baby.  Ha ha.  She joined contests, sang in the school and church choir, and joined an excellent singing group called His Sounds.  About 3 or 4 years ago, she finally decided to enroll herself in the College of Music in UP majoring in Voice.  That is after taking up some courses in dentistry, taking a degree in Interior Design, now she wants to follow her dream - her passion for music.

Part of her requirements in school is to have recitals.  She's done several before but a major one is scheduled this semester.  She needs about P50,000-P70,000.  Whoa - that much!  Where would she get the money?  Our parents are both retired and only gets a little from pension.  She used to accept students who wants some voice lessons but doesn't have any as of the moment because she wanted to concentrate on her studies full time.  That's why I want to help her ... look for sponsors and maybe if I win this contest .... every little bit helps.

By the way, here's a video of my sister singing "Pakiusap" performed at the lobby of St. Luke's Medical Center, QC on the occasion of World Voice Day, April 16, 2010.  She has improved her voice a lot already and I'm very proud of her.

Though I am not personally going to enjoy any of the money if I win, I believe in the cliche "Give and you will receive" and that we are called not only to be blessed but to be a blessing to others.  Would you agree to that?

Ways to Take Good Care of Your Computer

As I mentioned in my last post that our personal computer at home broke down and we thought that we would need to buy a new CPU which would cost around maybe P12,000.  Thank God, He sent a friend who himself volunteered to see if our CPU can still be fixed.  He brought our CPU to the computer repair shop and they were able to fix it for P1,200 only.  What savings!  But we needed to wait 2 days more because they accidentally plugged the CPU in 220 volts without changing the dual-volt switch to 220 volts, so the power supply was broken.  Anyway, glad that our computer is now fixed.

Since basically, it was our fault that our computer broke down, overused it - almost running it 24 hours a day, I'm listing here some of the Ways to Take Good Care of Your Computer.
  • Get protection for your computer like anti-virus, anti-spyware and put firewall on your computer especially if you use your computer for internet connection.  There are free versions you can install, just Google search for them.
  • Clean your computer.  Wipe off the dust accumulates on the CPU, monitor and keyboard.  Dust clogs the vents behind your computer which contributes to its heating up.   Microsoft provides a step-by-step guide how to clean properly your computer unit.
  • Keep food and drinks away from your computer.  You may accidentally spill some of it on your computer and that's not good at all.
  • Provide a proper ventilation for your computer.  If the place is not cool enough, the unit may overheat and fry some of the computer parts, just like what happened to our computer.
  • Lastly, give your computer a rest.  Though I've heard some say that it is all right to keep it on for long periods of time, it is necessary to give it time to rest. Overwork leads to inefficiency as they say.  Make a schedule of time of use.  That is what we are implementing now, since we are 6 in the family who are using one computer.  Don't forget to turn it off.  That is what happens sometimes, especially when we're waiting to download something.
Hope this list helps you as well.  If you have more ideas, do share it with us.  God bless.
