Cheap Gift Ideas for Girls Age 4 to 10 - All Under $10

If you're on a tight budget, it doesn’t mean your kids have to be disappointed at Christmas or on their birthdays. There are great toys and gifts for kids that are very affordable and will put a big smile on a child's face just the same.

Here are 10 cheap - under $10, but nice gift ideas for girls ages 4 to 10:

Coloring Pencils: Does your child like to draw and color? Paint can be expensive, but it’s possible to buy decent quality coloring pencils at a cheaper price. Why not shop around your local art supply store and see what’s available?

Board
Games: Some board games aren’t all that cheap, but plenty are. My kids and I like playing the Snake and Ladder board game. A good board game like that is a toy that the whole family can enjoy again and again.  A cheaper variation of the classic Snake and Ladder board games come with foldable mats. The one in the left picture below costs $5.79 as of this writing. The travel games set on the right image costs $9.95 but you get 4 games for that price.

Card Games: There are a lot of selection of card games sets available. For example, with the Top Trumps game, two or more players compete using these decks of card. In a Top Trumps game, all players read out a stat from their cards and place the cards in the center. The player with the highest stat wins all cards in the centre. Another fun game card set is the Go Fish Card Game for Kids. Aside from playing Go Fish, you can also play Old Maid with this card game. This is not just a fun game, it also helps the kids learn to count and identify different sea animals.

Dolls: Almost all girls like to get dolls for a present. There is a wide selection of dolls available and can be bought at good prices. Just be sure to choose a doll that you think your little girl will like. Tip: Look for dolls on sale like this Disney Junior Mira Royal Detective Doll and Barbie Dreamtopia Fairy Doll.

Fancy Dress: One of the gifts on my youngest daughter's wish list for Christmas is a dress. Many are on sale this time of the year, so you can easily find one at $5-$10.

Cotton Dog Unicorn Print Casual Dress for Girl, $8.88 - $11.88

But if you're really tight on budget, you don't have to buy a new dress. What you can do is gather up some old clothes from family and friends, the quirkier the better. Then, put them in a clothes basket and give them as a “fancy dress” hamper. They’ll have a great time dressing up. They can even put together their own plays for fun.

Eraser set:  I am not sure why but my daughter likes to have erasers with different designs. And I just found this Iwako Japanese Chinese Foods Eraser Set that I think she will love.

Iwako Assorted Food Cake Dessert Japanese Erasers, 10 Erasers, $8.75

She may not end up using these as erasers, but she will have some fun playing with them. She can pretend to cook these foods for her Barbie dolls. There are a few eraser sets with different designs available but some are a bit higher than $5.

Socks And Slippers: Socks with funny patterns, or novelty slippers can go down a storm and cost fairly little. Why not get your kids some cute socks, and animal slippers like this pair of bee slippers?

Puzzle Toys: Rubik’s cubes, fidget toys, chess sets, jigsaw puzzles and more all make great affordable toys. They usually keep kids occupied for a long time and are educational, too.

Diary or Journal: Some girls like to write stuff on their own diary. This is a great gift idea as she may like to have a different diary every year. This is also on my daughter's wish list of Christmas gifts.

Hair Accessories: This is something that girls do not seem to have enough of, especially those with long hair. You can easily make a jar of hair accessories to give out to your daughter, your niece and her friends.

Which Brand of Electric Fan Do You Recommend?

It’s really hot now and it’s so untimely that one of our fans gave up on us. We only have 2 working. Actually, since we came here in the Philippines 2 years ago, we’ve already bought 6 fans and I’m not satisfied with how they worked for only a short time. We bought 2 Standard industrial stand fans, one broke in less than a year while the other one is still working. We bought 1 Union desk fan and this one lasted 2 years. Then, we bought 1 Dowell stand fan because of a sale but then it was defective within one month. We brought it to their service center, they got it fixed but then the entire head (with the fan blade) of the fan flew off (nasira ang hinang).

What's the Best Shampoo For Getting Rid of Head Lice?

When my family was staying in the Middle East, my daughters had no problems with head lice or “kuto.” A head louse (lice, plural) is a six-legged parasite that feeds on blood in the human head. Lice do not jump or fly, but crawl only. They do not carry any disease, but they suck blood and cause itchiness. Here’s a photo showing the life cycle of head lice. The life cycle of head lice. Sisa Monologue Script in English

Last second quarter, my Grade 8 daughter's English class teacher asked them to present a Monologue in class. The teacher asked the students to choose a character on whom they want to base their monologue. My daughter chose Sisa of Noli Me Tangere. The problem is that most of the Sisa monologue Script that can be found on the internet are in Filipino or Tagalog. You can't find one in English. Well, there's one but it was very, very short, just one paragraph, I think. And so, we had no choice but to make a Sisa monologue script in English. It's not required for the students to make their own script and so I helped my daughter produce one. I just looked up a good Sisa script in Tagalog online and translated it. Thank God for Google Translate as it helped me do 50% of the work. The Google translation was not 100% accurate, so I still had to edit it. Here's the final script (515 words), which I want to share with you (and other people looking for Sisa monologue
